We recently had the privilege of collaborating with Extreme Turbo Systems to help transform their 2020 C8 Corvette into a powerhouse on both the street and the track. Leveraging the advanced components from Extreme Turbo Systems (ETS), we achieved remarkable enhancements in performance and drivability.
Project Overview
The foundation of this build was the ETS PT6870 Turbo Kit, renowned for its capability to produce 2000+ wheel horsepower (whp). This kit was ideal for, the desired balance between daily drivability and formidable track performance.
Engine and Performance Upgrades
To handle the increased power, the ETS Spec rotating assembly and valvetrain, ensured the engine could withstand the enhanced output. The PT6870 Turbo Kit was selected for its quick spool characteristics and impressive transient response, aligning with our goal of creating a responsive and powerful street car. In combination with the ETS Intake Manifold & Aux Fuel System.
Tuning and Calibration
For engine management, it utilized the ETS Tuning Package, which allowed for the factory ECU calibration while adding advanced features. This package enabled precise control over port injection, boost levels (including vehicle speed and gear-based adjustments), automatic shifting in Race/Manual mode, and dual wideband O2 sensor integration. These capabilities ensured seamless power delivery and maintained the vehicle's drivability.
Transmission and Drivetrain Enhancements
Given the substantial increase in power, it got an upgraded with a high-performance clutch and integrated a Dodson pressure box to manage the additional torque. This setup preserved the transmission's reliability while accommodating the enhanced engine output.
Track Performance
The results of this build were outstanding. The Corvette achieved a 60-130 mph time of just 3.59 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 8.89 seconds at 165 mph. Claiming the Corvette C8 World Record in the 1/4 mile. It also put down numbers of 1383whp and 1208ft/lbs making it the highest hp Corvette C8 in the world! These figures underscore the effectiveness of the ETS components and the meticulous tuning process.
Versatility and Daily Use
One of the most impressive aspects of this build is its versatility. Despite its formidable track capabilities, the vehicle remains well-suited for daily driving. With an easy switch back to the factory wheels and enjoy a comfortable, factory-like driving experience, now enhanced with significantly more power.
